1. Plan Properly
How are you planning to have the right people in the right place? Are you thinking about immediate needs, or maybe thinking a couple months down the road. You may make assumptions about those needs and end up finding out too late that your team is stacked with the wrong people.
A better move is to carefully think about goals and each step on the path toward reaching that goal. People need to be on-boarded at the right time and to the right team for those goals to become a reality.
2. Maintain Clarity
Vision. It’s what every success story has at the beginning of their goal-setting sessions. It’s through this vision that a map of the future can be laid out. However, this doesn’t work when different versions of the vision are floating around. Everyone must maintain clarity, stick with the plan and be flexible when required. Hiring people who share in your vision, rather than having to be convinced of it, will ease any growing pains that might be felt along the way.
3. Perfect Your Job Descriptions
Every position must be carefully thought out before you advertise openings. You can’t attract the right people with the wrong description of what their job will be. You must be detailed in your description, and don’t be surprised if you find out that you’re making the roles in your organization clearer by doing so.
4. Don’t Rely Solely on the Interview
While it’s true that the interview is important, it’s not everything. Some people are great interviewees but fail to live up to expectations when they actually land the job. Others struggle in interviews and don’t get hired, but they could actually be perfect for the job.
